May Edition
Issue #5

Hey everybun~ Since we’ve been having fun dropping facts about Japan, let’s tackle another topic! We’re going to be talking about Golden Week~ What is Golden Week you ask? Well it’s a whole week’s worth of holidays from April 29 – May 6. The holidays include Showa Day, Constitution Day, Greenery Day, and Children’s Day. A few of those days don’t necessarily have any holidays, but since there’s holidays back to back, Japan just decided to make it a whole week of vacation time! Let’s break down what each holiday is. Showa Day is the birthday of former Emperor Showa. Constitution Day is when the new postwar constitution was put into effect back in 1947. Greenery Day is dedicated to the environment due to the fact that former Emperor Showa loved plants and nature(originally this day was celebrated on the day of his bday!)
And finally, Children’s day families pray for the health and future success of their sons by hanging up carp streamers and displaying samurai dolls, symbolizing strength, power and success in life. Trains, airports, and sight seeing spots get super crowded during this week because EVERYONE is taking advantage of this whole week vacation( I mean..who would’nt??) It’s honestly best to avoid this week if you want to visit Japan because GOOD LUCK GETTING ANYWHERE AND NOT GETTING ANXIETY FROM THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE OUT AND ABOUT. Anyway, it’s such an interesting concept because since travel from the locals are high, so are the sales! People love to go shopping during this time of the year and it allows them to relax and not think about work for once(Well deserved rest for all the hardworking people out there!)
What Butter’s Baking

Lemon Berry Petit Fours Recipe/Travel
Hey hey! Butter here! You know, I’ve been thinking about some stuff lately. I wanted to further my baking skills and make more yummy and extravagant things! I was thinking of taking a lil trip to France to learn more recipes and kind of train just for fun(It’s also probably a good way to get away from Tomaki because he loves to push my buttons when I’m trying to bake) That’s just a thought for now~ I’m broke and it’s honestly just a dream to even experience something like that. In the meantime, I would like to share a recipe I tried out the other day!
It’s called lemon petite berry fours~ They’re really yummy bite sized cakes that’s easy to make batches into for fun get togethers. I think the best kind of cake to make for this recipe is a pound cake, so I made one from scratch and let it cool before I started cutting it into 2 layered smaller rectangles. For the filling, I made a lemon curd, raspberry jam for one layer and a nice vanilla buttercream on the 2nd layer. You can honestly just use any jam of your choosing and even use a lemon buttercream for that extra sour taste! And then I just made icing to top off the little cakes. These were so so yummy and I had the other buns try them. They were so yummy that the minute I turned around, THE REST OF THE BATCH WAS GONE. Do you want to know who ate them like a vacuum?? PURIN. Sigh I guess it means it was a success. I’m just going to have to make more…
Tomaki’s Insanely Sweet Frappe Recipe

Hi everybun! It’s me, Tomaki, back with another drink recipe. Before we get into this, I just want to say that this was not my choice of drink to make, but Purin was begging me to make him something sweet. He wouldn’t stop whining about it for the whole day…Purin was desperate to fuel himself with sweets because APPARENTLY it helps him focus during his ranked games. I’m surprised he never crashes after having so much sugar. Anyway, here’s a drink I came up with for him(Just for the record, NOT TOMAKI APPROVED). For my base ingredients, I have whole milk, this creme base I found on Bunazon that helps with making smoothies and such, and ice.
Throw those in the blender and set it aside. He requested I make like a pudding frappe so I bought a few cups of them at the store( I would have asked Butter to make me a batch, but she was definitely going to yell at me for making such a monstrosity of a drink if she knew…) Throw that in the blender and add some brown sugar syrup. I say I added about 20 tablespoons worth. And THEN Purin requested me to blend some chocolate chip cookies into it because he also wanted to chew on some cookie bits while he drank. I don’t know where his mind goes, but I just silently nodded and added them in. I asked him how many cookies, he just gave me a whole box of cookies and walked away…I didn’t want to go through the trouble of destroying my blender, so I just added 6 cookies. I blended everything together, took a tall glass and drizzled some chocolate syrup in the glass and poured the drink into it. To finish the drink , I topped it with whip cream, more chocolate drizzle, and a little cherry for presentation. Purin said he loved it and managed to rank up twice in his game. You know, even though this drink isn’t Tomaki approved, I guess it resulted in a positive outcome!
Kumi’s Yokai Class

Hey everybun. Kumi here with something quite different today. I wanted to start a segment on famous Yokais. I mean, who else would be as educated with the topic other than myself(obviously). I knew many of them actually. Some were neighbors and I got along with them very well. Today’s yokai of the month that I would like to introduce to everyone is the Yuki Onna. They usually reside in mountainous areas specifically where there is snow.
Yuki Onna tend to prey on travelers who tend to get lost in heavy snowstorms and feed on their life forces. That’s what they usually do with most of their time during the winter. However, even though they may seem to be such a threat, they’re not all cold hearted despite their white pale skin and skin that is icy cold to the touch. They can actually be very endearing towards some of their prey. Sometimes it goes so far to the point of marriage, but due to the fact that spirits never age, their partners eventually find out their true identity. I had a Yuki Onna as a neighbor when I lived in the mountains very briefly(I couldn’t handle the harsh cold weather. I don’t even know how she manages). She would tell me all these stories of the travelers she would come across every winter and quite frankly, I admired her upon hearing her tales from so many years. Her and I are identical in many ways in terms of doing what we need just to get what we want. That’s the proper way to live your life as a Yokai after all.
Fall Down the Rabbit Hole with Pongo

Hi every bun. Kumi told me to also change up my section so I will be researching different topics that interest me and go down the rabbit hole each month together. For starters, I don’t even know why it is called a “rabbit hole” while I am a rabbit myself. Well, technically mom calls us bunnies, but is there a difference? Anyways, we can save that for next month. I looked it up, and apparently, it is called a rabbit hole because of the popular book “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll. I actually just picked up a pretty hardcover copy of this book at the store!
I read the first few chapters and it makes a lot of sense as to why the term is called a “rabbit hole”. Many think it’s because the rabbit hole that Alice falls down at the beginning of the book is said to be a long fall, and therefore, a long hole. However, I think it is a combination of that in addition to the fact that Alice’s journey after the fall is a long and nonsensical one that has no plot or reason.
Alice gets distracted by a rabbit rushing by and ends up going on a long random journey similar to how we get distracted by something minor and end up hours deep going from one topic to another.
Tomaki does this a lot. He often tells me about how his day was and ends up talking about all these terms I’ve never heard of like “creatine” and “macros”. Maybe that could be one of my research topics for another day.
Monthly Faves!

Tomaki Protein Powder!
We all know Tomaki HAS to hit the gym everyday. It’s his hobby after all. And for him to have the best workout and hit a new PR, he HAS to have his protein powder. It keeps his mind awake and focused and he can’t go to the gym without it.

Butter Travel Pouch!
Since our girl has been thinking about traveling more to explore and learn new ways of baking, she’s been obsessed with trying to find the best travel pouch for all her necessities. She has her skin care, hygiene products, and a few of her electronics that can keep her company during her adventures~

Purin Poop Stool!
If Purin isn’t gaming, he’s pooping. One too many sweets is bound to bite him in the butt(literally). He’s discovered that having a poop stool really helps bowel movement, so that he can comfortably go back to gaming after finishing his business in the bathroom.
